Report: ‘Brilliant’ 20-year-old has impressed Howe at Newcastle, could start against Aston Villa

Elliot Anderson could be set for a starting role for Newcastle United.

After a fantastic pre-season, Elliot Anderson may well find himself in the Newcastle starting XI when the new Premier League season gets underway.

The Magpies’ first match of the new campaign takes place on Saturday, August 12th, when they take on Aston Villa at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe will certainly be tempted to test Anderson from the off. The youngster’s pre-season form has got him in contention to start, as reported by Chronicle Live.

Howe has already heaped praise on Anderson this summer, and teammate Kieran Trippier has been impressed, too. The England full-back has hailed the 20-year-old’s form as “brilliant,” as quoted by the club’s official YouTube channel.

Why Anderson is in contention

Anderson’s finest showings in the club’s pre-season Premier League Summer Series campaign came against Brighton and Aston Villa. His late brace earned the Tyneside outfit a win over the Seagulls, whilst his goal and general play stood out in the draw with Villa.

Anderson could now be set to punish the Villans again, this time in the far more serious context of an actual Premier League clash. Whether or not the young midfielder does get the nod against Unai Emery’s side, he will definitely be in Howe’s plans this year.

He won’t be the only young Newcastle ace knocking on the door for Premier League minutes either. Lewis Miley and Alex Murphy also impressed on the USA tour and are deserving of an opportunity.

Whilst Newcastle’s ambitions grow, and they begin to target the biggest prizes in the game, it’s vital that they don’t lose sight of the importance of nurturing young talents. Anderson has been with the club since the age of eight. The fans will want to see this local academy product get his chance to shine on the biggest stage.

Newcastle expected to make ‘official offer’ to sign 24-year-old this week – Magpies ready to pay €35m

On July 27th, TuttoMercatoWeb reported Newcastle United have initiated contact and also collected information about Galatasaray star Nicolò Zaniolo.

According to Takvim, clubs from England, Germany and Saudi Arabia have all lined up to sign the winger this summer.

Newcastle and RB Leipzig are named as the Italy international’s suitors from Europe.

He managed five goals and an assist from 12 matches since arriving at the Istanbul club from AS Roma in January.

Zaniolo’s displays have convinced the Magpies, the Bundesliga side and Al-Hilal as it’s said the trio are expected to knock on Galatasaray’s door with ‘official offers’ this week.

Takvim make no mention of the fee Newcastle, Leipzig and the Saudi Arabian club would offer but state Roma are entitled to receive 20% of the fee from the 24-year-old’s future sale.

Over at Sabah, they focus only on Newcastle’s interest in the player. They say the Premier League side are ‘ready to pay’ €35m to take Zaniolo away from Galatasaray and are also trying to persuade him to join them.

Eddie Howe’s side have signed Sandro Tonali from AC Milan earlier in this window and are now working to take his compatriot.

Report: Newcastle can now sign 24-year-old for around £20m, he thinks Toon fans are ‘crazy’

If Newcastle United want a bargain midfielder during this summer’s transfer window, they can look no further than Leeds United.

The Magpies have already signed Sandro Tonali from AC Milan. He is the club’s marquee addition ahead of the new season, but it remains to be seen if he is the only midfielder to sign on the dotted line.

Shortly after Tonali’s arrival, it was reported that Eddie Howe still wants to sign another midfielder.

However, with money seemingly tight due to financial fair play, Toon officials will need to be clever when it comes to their recruitment.

And that is why rumours of a move for Leeds ace Tyler Adams is certainly intriguing.

Newcastle can get Tyler Adams for around £20million

The USA international was linked with Newcastle earlier in the summer following Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League to the Championship.

Adams is someone who caught Newcastle’s eye last season, with scouts impressed with the way he played at St James’ Park during a 0-0 draw.

The 24-year-old really was excellent on that day, making a lasting impression with his performance. However, it was a two-way street, with Adams admitting that the Newcastle fans were ‘crazy’ and that St James’ Park was his favourite stadium to visit during his first year in English football.

Now he could have the chance to play there regularly if Newcastle get the chequebook out.

According to the Athletic, Adams has a relegation release clause in his Leeds contract. They state that he can leave Elland Road for around £20million, which is how much Leeds bought him for from RB Leipzig last year.

12 months on and Adams could be on the move again, as he is clearly too good to be in the Championship. He was one of Leeds’ best players during a difficult season, and could prove to be an astute signing for Newcastle if Dan Ashworth decides to make a move.

While £20million is far from pocket change, it is relatively reasonable in the current financial climate. Adams would add greater depth to our midfield, as Howe looks to strengthen his squad ahead of competing in the Champions League.

A new midfielder is not the priority right now with defensive reinforcements taking centre stage, but Adams could be a great addition if Newcastle eventually turn their attention back to the middle of the park.
