Jerry Jones goes radio silent, tells departing Dallas Cowboys the urgency to win is now
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ season-long radio obligations with 105.3 The Fan have come to an end. Although he has often continued to go on air even after the final game of the season to wrap up the season in the past, it didn’t happen last year and it is not happening this year.
The station tweeted a message that Jerry Jones and vice president Stephen Jones are done with their shows for the season, per their contractual agreement.
The Cowboys re-affirmed this plan in writing a couple weeks ago, per a team spokesman.
Jones addressed the media after Sunday’s “unconscionable” 48-32 season-ending loss to the Green Bay Packers and said he had not thought about a plan forward because he didn’t see this coming. He called the loss one of the biggest surprises he’s had as Cowboys’ owner and arguably his most painful playoff loss. Jones, however, left an ominous parting message with his still-stunned players during a team meeting on Monday.
“We got to win,” cornerback Jourdan Lewis said when asked Jones’ message to the team. “We are the Dallas Cowboys, we got to win. We can’t let this feeling keep going on. I just feel like he just he wants to win right now. The urgency is now. It was always that. We always had on our shoulders. He made it clear that he wants to win now.” How Jones goes about making that happen in 2024 as the team embarks on a 29th year since their last Super Bowl title in 1995 is unknown? Will he make a change with head coach Mike McCarthy after three straight 12-win seasons and three straight early playoff exits?
It must be noted that last year’s change in not talking after the playoff loss that the Cowboys are copying this year came after he caused a firestorm when he seemingly left McCarthy hanging following the 2021 season and initially refused to offer clarity regarding his status for 2022 on his radio show.
