Rayshawn Jenkins breaks Seahawks record with wild 101-yard scoop and score TD
Former Miami Hurricanes star Rayshawn Jenkins had one of the most impressive defensive plays of the 2024 NFL season thus far on Sunday. With the Giants trying to punch the ball in at the goal line against the Seahawks, running back Eric Gray fumbled the ball right at the goal line, with Jenkins recovering it. He then raced off for a 101-yard scoop and score touchdown.
It’s the longest defensive touchdown in Seahawks franchise history.
Jenkins had nobody around him for much of the trip to the end zone. So, he decided to jog, and then skip into the end zone. When you’re that open and it’s that easy. Why not?
Before joining the Seattle Seahawks, Jenkins spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jenkins was the Jaguars’ third-leading tackler in 2023 as the team finished the regular season 9-8. He tallied 101 total tackles with 66 solo tackles, one sack and seven tackles for loss. He also snagged two interceptions.
The 2023 season was Jenkins’ third with Jacksonville. He joined the team in 2021 after spending his first four seasons with the L.A. Chargers. However, he suffered a broken ankle in Week 15 and missed the remainder of his first year with the Jaguars. He then posted a career-high in tackles last season with 116 in 17 games played. Jenkins also had a career-high three interceptions, tying his 2019 total. He scored the first pick-six of his career as well.
A former fourth-round draft pick, Jenkins joined the Jaguars on a four-year, $35 million deal. He played out his four-year rookie deal with the Chargers.
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Nick Herbig was taken to the locker room during the Sunday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys after suffering an injury. It was announced that Herbig sustained a hamstring injury and his return to the game was questionable.
The injury happened in the third quarter when the Steelers led the Cowboys 10-6. Before the injury, Herbig recorded two tackles, one tackle for loss and half a sack. In Herbig’s first four games of the 2024 season, he has posted six tackles, two tackles for loss and two sacks.
Herbig was selected by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, the former Wisconsin star tallied 27 tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles.
Last month, Steelers All-Pro pass rusher T.J. Watt talked about his relationship with Herbig. “Nick is so much fun because he reminds me a lot of myself,” Watt said, per the Steelers’ official website. “It also reminds me of my relationship with my oldest brother, J.J., when it comes to football. I just want to know everything he has to tell me. And I want to try to do the best of my ability.
