Wrexham told how likely they are to achieve League One promotion after ‘brutal’ Wycombe win…
Wrexham fans have been left dreaming of Championship football following their 1-0 victory over promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers.
Phil Parkinson’s side visited Adams Park knowing a win would take them into the automatic promotion slots.
With just goal difference separating the two sides, it was unsurprisingly a very tight affair, with Sam Smith’s 78th minute winner enough for the three points.
Wrexham’s win versus Wycombe means the Red Dragons now have a much needed three point cushion in second place – something which has massively boosted their promotion chances according to the stats.

Opta tips Wrexham for automatic promotion after Wycombe win
Birmingham City’s unstoppable march towards the League One title means Wrexham are having to fight it out with the hunting pack for second place.
With this in mind, Wycombe actually started the weekend in the automatic slots, with Opta tipping them to secure second place over Wrexham come the end of the season.
Those predictions, however, have since changed following Wrexham’s win at Adams Park, with the stats now predicting the Red Dragons to finish slightly ahead of Wycombe in terms of points.
Expected points Promotion chances Playoff chances
Wrexham 85.07 38.98% 60.52%
Wycombe 85.04 46.06% 53.10%

Mike Dodds described the Wrexham defeat as ‘brutal’ and it seems like the stats agree with Wycombe boss.
Goal difference could be key for Wrexham’s promotion hopes
With the numbers predicting Wrexham and Wycombe to both finish level on 85 points, goal difference could be huge in deciding the automatic promotion places this season.
The Red Dragons haven’t been at their free scoring best this campaign and that has seen them only rack up 51 goals, ten behind Wycombe’s tally of 61.
Currently sitting on +21 goal difference, Wrexham are six goals behind their promotion rivals – something which could cost them come May.
The likes of Jay Rodriguez have struggled in front of goal recently and Parkinson may be forced to change up his forward line if Wrexham are to catch up in terms of goal difference.
