Leeds United news as Crystal Palace linked with Crysencio Summerville swoop

A look at the latest Leeds United headlines this afternoon

A round-up of the latest Leeds United headlines this evening on Saturday, August 5.

Crystal Palace linked with Crysencio Summerville swoop

Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville is reportedly a target for Crystal Palace this summer, according to Football Insider. A number of Premier League sides are said to be keen on signing the Dutch youth international following the relegation from the top flight.

The Eagles are said to view Summerville as an ideal replacement for Wilfried Zaha after his move to Galatasaray earlier this summer. Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund were also linked with the Whites youngster but interest from both parties has fallen quiet.

The same outlet claims Leeds are hoping to sign a number ten and a striker in the coming weeks, but may have to offload players in order to do so. The Whites have seen a number of first-team stars leave on loan this summer, with Rodrigo the only player to recoup some money.

Michael Bridges feels Leeds United have favourable fixtures to ‘get some points on the board’

Former Leeds United striker Michael Bridges believes the Whites need to make the most of a favourable run of games at the beginning of the season to get momentum up and running. Daniel Farke’s side will be hoping to start on a positive footing with a win over Cardiff City at Elland Road on Sunday.

The Bluebirds were one of the sides that struggled at the foot of the Championship last season and Leeds will be hoping to get an early win on the board.

Bridges told The Official Leeds United Podcast: “I’m very, very excited because it’s the start of a new season. I know it’s the Championship season and we’d rather be in the Premier League but this is reality.

“There’s more games to come this season and like I say, looking at the fixture list early on, if you could have given me any fixture list to take on teams like Cardiff and Birmingham in the first couple of matches and a team like Ipswich as well – I know West Brom are in there which is going to be a tough game – a team that’s been promoted, two teams that struggled last season.”

Leeds United’s ‘better shape’ verdict ahead of their Championship curtain raiser with Cardiff City

Leeds United have been backed to win their opening game of the Championship against Cardiff City this weekend by former Whites’ midfielder David Prutton. The 41-year-old, who works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes his former side are in a better position than the last time they were relegated from the Premier League.

The former midfielder believes the club has done well to recruit Daniel Farke and keep the likes of Jack Harrison, Wilfried Gnonto and Tyler Adams at the club so far this summer.

Prutton told Sky Sports : “Leeds United were promoted in a blaze of glory a few seasons ago and the city came alive under the management of Marcelo Bielsa. It only looked as though they were going to kick on, but if you don’t move forward in football you get left behind.

“And that is what happened. Their fans will be praying it’s not another 16 years before they taste the top flight again.”

Leeds United supporters hit back at Paul Merson after saying Daniel Farke’s agent should be knighted

Leeds United supporters have hit back at Paul Merson after the Sky Sports pundit came out with the bizarre claim that Daniel Farke’s agent should be knighted after landing the managerial job at Elland Road. Whites supporters were quick to point out their new head coach is a two-time Championship title winner with Norwich City.

Merson told Sky Sports: “His agent should’ve got knighted. How’s he got that job? They lost 27 games on the trot at Norwich didn’t they?

“I know he got them up (Norwich City) but this league is a lot harder. He was at Norwich when they couldn’t help but get in the play-offs and they didn’t get in the play-offs!

“I think he’s very fortunate. I like him don’t get me wrong, but he’s got the biggest job. For me, they’re one of the biggest clubs about Leeds. I’m not being horrible it’s not like he’s won games on the trot. He’s got pedigree but he’s done well because this is a big, big club.”
