Nottingham Forest transfer news: Reds want ‘amazing’ 23-year-old

Nottingham Forest are turning their attention towards Josip Sutalo in their quest to sign a new defender. The Reds are chasing new players ahead of next Saturday when they kick off their season against Arsenal.

According to The Express, a move for Sutalo to go to Ajax has recently collapsed. Now, Forest are keen to throw their name into the mix to land the player this summer.

Sutalo is currently playing for Dinamo Zagreb and he operates as a centre-back. He has been with the Croatian champions for his entire career so far and spent last season on loan with NK Istra.

At 23-years-old, the player is at a nice age. He certainly fits the profile of a player that Steve Cooper would sign and enjoy working with as he looks to get Forest moving up the Premier League.

The Reds won’t be alone in the race to sign Sutalo. West Ham have the money they recouped from selling Declan Rice to spend and they’re keen to take him to the London Stadium.

It’s claimed that Forest see Sutalo as an alternative to Roger Ibanez. The Roma player was seen as a top target for Forest but he could now be going to Saudi Arabia.

Forest turning their attention towards Sutalo

The Reds definitely need a new defender before the transfer window closes. Moussa Niakhate is out with an elbow injury, whilst Felipe hasn’t played all pre-season after suffering a knee problem.

That leaves Willy Boly, Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna in the Forest defensive ranks. Options are currently in short supply and the interest in Sutalo doesn’t come as a surprise.

The defender has made 85 appearances for Zagreb during his career. He’s featured for the club in European competition and he’s a player that looks destined for a top European league at some point.

Rumour rating: 7/10 – We certainly like the sound of this one. He’s a defender who should improve in the coming years and at 23 he’s at a nice age to do just that.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig called him ‘simply amazing’ last season and at 6ft 3in, he could prove to be a very useful signing for Forest to make.
