Arsenal set to complete ‘spoiled child’ signing within 48 hours as transfer edges ‘closer’

Arsenal should complete the signing of Brentford goalkeeper David Raya within the next 48 hours, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Matt Turner is set to leave the Emirates Stadium with Nottingham Forest reportedly closing in on a deal for the USA international goalkeeper.

That will pave the way for the Gunners to push harder for Raya with their opening bid of £20m plus add-ons falling short of Brentford’s £40m valuation.

Raya was one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League last term and Thomas Frank has said that he hoped to get £40m for the goalkeeper, despite the Spaniard entering the final year of his contract.

And Romano said in a tweet that he expects Arsenal to wrap up a deal for Raya in the next 24 to 48 hours with Turner agreeing personal terms at Forest.

Romano wrote on Twitter: “Nottingham Forest are closing in on Matt Turner deal with Arsenal, here we go soon #NFFC Verbal agreement in place, personal terms also agreed — clubs finalising the details and then it will be sealed. Arsenal now closer to David Raya, could be done in 24/48h.”

The Daily Mail reported yesterday that ‘a bid of around £30million could be enough’ to get Brentford to allow Raya to move to north London.

There has been a lot of interest in Raya this summer with his contract expiring in June 2024 and Spanish newspaper Nacional insists that Barcelona and Real Madrid ‘will not fight’ for Raya, who for no apparent reason describe the Spaniard as a ‘spoiled child’.

They also expect a ‘resolution’ between Arsenal and Brentford ‘soon’ and they put ‘the high cost’ as the reason the two La Liga clubs won’t be entering the race.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor can’t work out why the Gunners are spending at least £30m on a new goalkeeper when they could sign a new midfielder with the money.

“It’s very strange that Arsenal are spending £30million on a goalkeeper,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“Previously at Arsenal, they had Ramsdale and Leno, who didn’t take while to losing his place and he wanted to leave. Look at Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Manchester United, they don’t have two top goalkeepers.

“You only need one top goalkeeper as keepers don’t regularly get injured either, they don’t do a lot of running during games.

“So for me, it’s very strange to to even use £30 or £35 million when Arsenal need another midfielder to help with Thomas Partey in the midfield.

“Let’s not forget, goalkeepers don’t need rotating like outfield players, they get the ball to play from the back, and they don’t do a lot of running.”
