Sources: Newcastle set to hijack Tottenham’s Tapsoba move – £50m bid will be accepted

Newcastle United are ready to launch a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba, sources have told Football Insider.

The 24-year-old, who is also wanted by Tottenham, has been made a top target by the Magpies as they line up their latest summer arrival.

Football Insider revealed last week (4 August) that Spurs planned to accelerate their push to sign Tapsoba after completing the capture of Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg.

Leverkusen are demanding around £50million for the defender and that price could rise if multiple other European clubs formalise their interest in the coming weeks.

Spurs are keen to add at least two new options at centre-back this summer after the position has been identified by Ange Postecoglou as a key area to strengthen.

Tapsoba, 24, is wanted by clubs around Europe and is keen to move to a top side this summer amid major competition for his signature.

The north London side have been busy trying to bring in a number of talents and have so far brought in Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison as well as making the loan moves for Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro permanent.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have already signed Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, and Tino Livramento this summer and are looking to add Tapsoba to this list.

Tapsoba has made 100 Bundesliga appearances for Bayer Leverkusen and is now a key feature for the side after joining from Vitoria Guimaraes in 2020.

The centre-back has been capped 36 times for Burkina Faso.

Newcastle transfer rumours with Yaser Asprilla interest after Everton ‘tracked’ Elliot Anderson

All of the latest Newcastle United transfer headlines including reports on Watford prospect Yaser Asprilla and Magpies academy graduate Elliot Anderson

Asprilla is a name already synonymous with the Toon Army for Faustino’s antics, both on and off the pitch. The former striker netted 18 times in 63 appearances for Newcastle after joining Kevin Keegan’s Entertainers from Parma.

Now, Brighton and the Magpies have both been linked with Tino’s namesake Yaser, who is said to be keen on a move away from Watford. That is according to Colombian outlet Antena 2, who also credit Real Sociedad and Porto with an interest in the 19-year-old.

Asprilla made 37 appearances for the Hornets in his debut season at Vicarage Road, and has been capped twice at senior level by Colombia. The midfielder is under contract until 2026, which could work in Watford’s favour should any of the aforementioned clubs step up their interest.

Elliot Anderson has arguably been the standout star from pre-season with the Magpies, with the academy graduate netting four times including a match-winning double against Brighton. Eddie Howe hailed the 20-year-old for returning as the fittest member of the squad, and the attacking midfielder is likely in line for a start in the season opener against Aston Villa.

However, having been forced to watch much of last season from the sidelines, Newcastle reportedly received a number of enquiries for Anderson. According to GiveMeSport, Everton and Luton Town both expressed an interest, while a number of Championship clubs explored a prospective loan deal.

However, Howe has been clear that he sees Anderson as part of his first-team plans this season.
