Report: Newcastle have just been given reason to believe £62m PL player wants to join them

Newcastle United remain on the lookout for one more signing.

While it has been a productive summer even despite FFP issues with three first-team players brought to the club, Eddie Howe has confirmed he would love to bring another player in.

In order to do so, however, the Newcastle United manager says the club will have to be “creative”.

Well, according to the Daily Telegraph, a plan is being formed.

Marc Cucurella open to Newcastle United move

Indeed, they suggest Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella remains of interest.

Linked earlier this summer having worked with Dan Ashworth at Brighton, the Spanish international is said to be a target.

The report adds that Newcastle have been given reason to believe the 25-year-old is open to the move to St James’ Park and could structure a deal in favourable payment terms.

There is said to be a confidence a breakthrough can be found on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the season, which could help navigate FFP problems.

There’s clearly a player in Cucurella

While life at Chelsea hasn’t gone smoothly since a £62m move from Brighton last summer, Cucurella did impress during his time on the south coast.

Chased by Manchester City prior to his move to Chelsea, the Spaniard was described as a “hungry, mobile, very intelligent player” by Thomas Tuchel.

Also able to operate in central defence too, he certainly wouldn’t be the first to have seen his career stall at Stamford Bridge.

On potentially favourable terms, perhaps a move to Newcastle and working under Howe – who has a proven track record of yielding improvement out of players – could help restart his career.

Newcastle United transfer rumours as Magpies ‘miss deadline’ to sign ‘target’ Serhou Guirassy

A round-up of the latest Newcastle United transfer rumours on Monday, August 14.

Magpies’ target sees release clause expire

Kicker claim Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and West Ham have all missed the opportunity to activate Serhou Guirassy’s release clause. The Magpies were among three Premier League clubs linked with a move for the Stuttgart striker.

The €15million release clause in Guirassy’s contract is said to have expired on August 11, allowing the Bundesliga side to reject any offers now over that price. The Guinea international scored 14 goals for the German side last season.

The report claims there has been a collective sigh of relief at Stuttgart given the expiration of that clause. It’s believed Newcastle United will now target a right-sided centre-half.

Newcastle United and Brighton have been named as two possible destinations for Watford youngster Yáser Asprilla. That’s according to Antena 2, who claim the 19-year-old wants to leave the Hornets and has four ‘real options’ this summer.

Real Madrid and Real Sociedad have also been credited with an interest in the Colombian star but the latter of the two Spanish club is the only La Liga side to have registered an interest. Links with Los Blancos have been downplayed, with Portuguese side FC Porto also reportedly tracking the youngster.

Asprilla is said to want to play at the highest level and the report claims he could look to force a move if an offer arrives.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal could reportedly make a bid for Nicolo Barella after Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United failed to sign the Inter Milan midfielder earlier in the summer transfer window.

According to Football Transfers, Arsenal are considering making a bid for Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.

The report has claimed that Newcastle made a move for Barella earlier this summer, but the Premier League club could not meet Inter’s asking price and signed his Italy international midfielder Sandro Tonali from AC Milan instead.

Arsenal are now considering making a bid for the 26-year-old after receiving indications that the £154,000-a-week (SalarySport) midfielder would be open to a move.

Football Transfers has added that the potential signing of Barella means that Ghanaian star Thomas Partey will be sold.

Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella would be a good signing for Arsenal

In our opinion, Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella would be a very good signing for Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

Barella is one of the best midfielders in Serie A and he is only 26.

The Italian star’s best years are ahead of him.

We believe that Barella would be able to make an immediate impact at Arsenal.

The Italian is used to winning major trophies and competing for silverware.

The 26-year-old has won Serie A once and the Coppa Italia twice with Inter.

Barella also helped Inter reach the final of the UEFA Champions League last season and won the 2020 UEFA European Championship with Italy.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp rates Barella highly.

According to Klopp, the midfielder is “aggressive”, “technical” and “can run for ages”.

Newcastle: Magpies looking to hijack Edmond Tapsoba deal

Tottenham are also interested in signing the centre-back.

Newcastle United are believed to be looking to hijack Tottenham’s move for a centre-back this summer, according to a fresh transfer claim.

Newcastle United are believed to be looking to hijack Tottenham’s move for a centre-back this summer, according to a fresh transfer claim.

The 24-year-old has also won 36 caps for Burkina Faso, showing that he is already a very established player at international level, too, despite still being relatively young.

It could be that Tapsoba looks for a fresh challenge before the 2023/24 season properly gets into full swing, though, despite the fact that his current Leverkusen deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2026.

Newcastle are continuing to look at potential centre-back options before the transfer cutoff at the end of the month, with a younger upgrade on Fabian Schar arguably needed. It looks as though Tapsoba could be an option, following a new update.

Could Newcastle sign Edmond Tapsoba?

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are keen on making a move for the Leverkusen defender in the current transfer window, pipping Spurs to his signature in the process:

“Newcastle United are ready to launch a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba, sources have told Football Insider. The 24-year-old, who is also wanted by Tottenham, has been made a top target by the Magpies as they line up their latest summer arrival.

“Football Insider revealed last week (4 August) that Spurs planned to accelerate their push to sign Tapsoba after completing the capture of Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg. Leverkusen are demanding around £50million for the defender and that price could rise if multiple other European clubs formalise their interest in the coming weeks.”

Tapsoba could be a fantastic option for Newcastle this summer – football talent scout Jacek Kulig has described him as “solid as a rock” – ticking so many when it comes to the type of player Eddie Howe is looking to bring in.

At 24, he is at that sweet spot where he is experienced at both club and international level, but also still has plenty of time to improve further, as is the case with Sven Botman, who is still only 23 years of age. They could be a long-term pairing at St James’ Park for many years, proving to be the bedrock for the team in the process.

Tapsoba, who currently earns £52,000 per week at Leverkusen, averaged an impressive 3.6 clearances per game in the Champions League last season, not to mention three per match in the Bundesliga, and he also enjoyed a 91.3% pass completion rate in the former, showing how competent he is with the ball at his feet on the big stage.

This would feel like another big signing if Newcastle could get a deal over the line, particularly if it comes at the expense of a fellow top-four challenger in Spurs, showing that the Magpies are now a more appealing club to join than the north Londoners, which arguably hasn’t been the case for a long time.
