West Ham United open talks to seal Josh Brownhill transfer

West Ham United have opened talks to sign Burnley midfield star Josh Brownhill, according to the Daily Express.

The newspaper has reported on its website [14 August] that the Irons could sign a third midfielder in this window with speculation still surrounding Lucas Paqueta’s future.

It is said that West Ham could land themselves a bargain with Burnley potentially cashing in this summer on Brownhill, with his contract expiring next summer.

Other unnamed Premier League clubs are said to hold an interest too, so David Moyes may need to move fast to get a deal over the line this month.

Vincent Kompany dropped the midfielder for the Premier League opener against Manchester City, meaning that it is likely a move can be sorted.

This would be an interesting signing, and possibly one that would just further bolster the squad.

With Moyes seeing players come and go at an alarming rate already, Paqueta moving on would likely cause another issue, with Declan Rice and even Flynn Downes now moving on too.

That leaves Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse and Tomas Soucek with potentially one more name needed to make this midfield really competitive.

Brownhill has tasted more success in the Championship than the Premier League, that is fair to say, but he has had his moments and in a season with yet more European football, the depth is needed.

If this move does prove to be a bargain, it could be a no-brainer with money no issue for the Hammers at this moment in time, it needs to be spent.

With another striker and potentially defender needed though, Moyes will need to be smart and this move could prove to be just that for little cost.

This is certainly one to watch with talks now underway.

In other West Ham news, the club have already identified a replacement for Lucas Paqueta
