Major update on Burnley bid to sign Sunderland star Clarke
Sunderland have slapped a £15million asking price on in-demand Jack Clarke amid interest from Burnley, sources have told Football Insider.
The Clarets have submitted a bid of £10million rising to £12million with add-ons for the former Tottenham winger.
Sunderland have knocked that back as they hold out for £15million for Clarke.
Burnley retain an active interest in the Leeds academy product, 22, going into the final two weeks of the summer window.
The winger is already up and running for the 2023-24 campaign after scoring in Sunderland’s 2-1 loss against Preston last week.
Clarke managed 11 goals and 14 assists for the Black Cats across all competitions last season as they recorded a top-six finish in the Championship.
He joined the Wearside club on a permanent basis from Tottenham last summer (2022) after a successful loan spell at the Stadium of Light.
As such, the winger is under contract until June 2026.
Despite his big-money move to Tottenham in 2020, Clarke is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League – an opportunity which could be handed to him with a move to Burnley.
The 22-year-old is a proven Championship player, however, having notched 12 goals and 16 assists in 90 second-tier games.
Burnley have added no fewer than 11 new faces following their promotion back to the Premier League as champions, spending a reported £78million.
Vincent Kompany’s side face Aston Villa in their next game on 27 August after losing 3-0 against Man City in their season-opener last week.
In other news, Burnley set aside funds to sign prolific goalscorer.
