Tottenham continue to be option for player – Spurs given ‘priority’ for signing

On August 25th, AS insisted Tottenham Hotspur could be Clément Lenglet’s next possible destination despite Barcelona registering him with La Liga last Thursday.

The defender was on loan at Spurs last season and earlier claims had stated he’s keen to return to the north London club.

Sport state Tottenham are one of the options available for the 28-year-old in the last days of the window.

The defender’s exit is a priority for Barca who have realised it’s almost impossible for them to carry out his sale for €15m. Therefore, a loan move is favoured in order to save on his wages.

Sport say the centre-back will collect €16m and that includes the salary for this season plus the wages he’s owed for the pay cut he took during the pandemic. Barca have been wanting the club that’ll take him on loan to cover the money that was deferred.

It’s claimed Barcelona’s ‘priority’ was to send the Frenchman back on loan to the Premier League side as he was comfortable at Tottenham last season.

The newspaper adds Barca have other options, including sending him back to Sevilla. He’s willing to join the Andalusian club but Sport say they cannot take care of his full salary.

Lenglet’s exit operation will ‘speed up’ in the next few days and Tottenham continue to be an option on the table for him.

Manchester United are still looking a little light in midfield. The Old Trafford side have been pretty poor in that area of the field so far this season, with recruitment necessary before the close of play.

However, generating funds via player sales is proving tough. It means Erik ten Hag has been able to invest in midfield – and other positions…

Time is now running out. The panic is no doubt setting in behind the scenes.

Over the last 24 hours, a new name has been thrown into the mix; Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. It comes from The Telegraph. They state that United are ‘considering’ making a ‘surprise’ move to sign the 28-year-old midfielder this summer.

Apparently, United have ben offered the chance to sign the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder before the close of play on Friday, with Ange Postecoglu ready to let the Dane leave White Hart Lane.

There’s no doubt that Hojbjerg would add some extra quality to midfield, though I’m not really sure his levels are enough to make a real difference. He’d also come with a hefty price tag, given he’d be transferring between Premier League sides.

I still do not see how United find the funds to bring anyone in right now, let alone a player who is right in the middle of his prime years.
