Aston Villa and Newcastle United could now be about to miss out on the signing of Arthur Melo, according to a report.

TuttoJuve reported in June that Newcastle United were planning to make a move for Arthur Melo, who spent last season on loan at Liverpool from Juventus.

The report claimed that the Magpies want to sign the 26-year-old on a loan deal in the summer transfer window with a view to a permanent move.

TuttoJuve also reported interest from Aston Villa in Arthur.

However, Fiorentina are now about to sign the Brazilian star.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Fiorentina are close to clinching a deal for the 26-year-old.

Negotiations are reportedly ‘advancing’ for the signing of the current Juventus midfielder to join the Serie A club.

Romano goes on to say that the deal will be a loan until 2024 and that there is a buy option included in the deal for the Brazilian, with Juventus paying a part of the salary for the midfielder, who has had his injury issues in recent years.

Stop-start career for Melo

The Brazilian midfielder made the move to Liverpool last summer, and it was seen as a fresh start for the midfielder.

Melo had made the move to Juventus back in 2020 in a highly controversial swap deal with Barcelona for fellow midfielder Miralem Pjanic.

The midfielder has only featured 42 times in the Serie A since his move to Massimiliano Allegri’s side, so a loan was organised.

The loan to Liverpool was seen as a great move for the Brazilian to get his career back on track.

Liverpool were lacking depth in midfield, and the signing of Melo was seen as a fantastic signing for a relatively low loan fee with his wages being partly covered by the Serie A side.

The Premier League had the option of signing the Brazilian for £32 million but it became clear, quite quickly, that Liverpool would not take that option.

Melo made just two appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side as a myriad of injury issues meant that his time at Anfield was seen as an unmitigated disaster.

Liverpool, unsurprisingly, refused to take the buy option, and now the midfielder is set to make a return to Italian football with Vincenzo Italiano’s Fiorentina.
