Aston Villa In Talks For La Liga Man

Aston Villa are negotiating with Barcelona for Clement Lenglet, with talks to conclude a deal happening now.

Lenglet spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur and the Lilywhites were credited with an interest in keeping the Frenchman earlier in the transfer window.

However, the London giants did not make a move for the defender, while Barcelona are keen on offloading the player in a bid to balance their books.

Now another Premier League side in the shape of Aston Villa have emerged as suitors for Lenglet.

Talks are now happening between both clubs, according to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, but it is not sure whether the move would be a loan or a transfer.

Barcelona want to get Lenglet off the books at the Camp Nou.

Aston Villa want to bolster their defensive ranks further after making a high-profile signing of Pau Torres.

Now it remains to be seen if Unai Emery’s side will be able to strike a deal with Barcelona for the French defender in the coming days.

Barcelona and Aston Villa in negotiations for 28-year-old defender – Romero

Only just a while earlier today, Fabrizio Romano reported that Aston Villa were weighing up a late move for Barcelona outcast Clement Lenglet.

Now, building on that, Gerard Romero has claimed that Barça and Aston Villa are already in negotiations over a move for the 28-year-old defender.

Lenglet will return to the Premier League

There had been interest in Lenglet from his former club Sevilla, while Real Betis had also asked about the Frenchman.

More recently, Olympique Lyon were understood to have taken an interest in his situation.

But Lenglet, who spent the last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, appears all set to return to the Premier League, with Aston Villa his likely destination.

Barça, Villa working out the details of the operation

As per the update from Romero, the two clubs are working towards reaching an agreement for the departure of Lenglet.

It is still unclear whether the operation will be a loan move or a permanent transfer, but either way, Barcelona are eager to get Lenglet off their books at the earliest possible.

After all, owing to his past deferred salaries, the Frenchman’s wages for the new season are set to be as high as €16 million (gross).

The Blaugrana, given their financial situation, are in no position to pay that, at a time when they are looking to make cuts in order to sign and register new players.

As such, having grown desperate, the La Liga champions even offered Lenglet the letter of freedom, which he reportedly rejected.
