Leeds United not “totally convinced” by international midfield target – Sky Sports

Leeds United have reportedly been in talks to sign Fortuna Dusseldorf midfielder Ao Tanaka this week, but have not progressed with the signing over concerns with his ability.

Signings are going to have to come thick and fast over the next three days to ensure that Leeds are in the best place possible for a real promotion charge.

It’s not as if the club are sitting on their hands, though, with two ambitious arrivals already confirmed over the last week.

Ao Tanaka to Leeds?

In the midfield department, the club have been linked with a move for Fortuna Dusseldorf and Japan star Ao Tanaka.

Reports from Bild in Germany claimed that a move to Elland Road was “about to” be confirmed for the 24-year-old, with an offer on the table from Leeds.

What’s the latest?

Sky Sports journalist Marlon Irlbacher is now claiming that Leeds’ interest in the midfielder has died down somewhat despite holding talks to sign him.

He claims that Leeds are not “totally convinced” by the quality that Tanaka would bring to the side, while Dusseldorf command a “lucrative transfer fee”.

Who will Leeds sign in midfield?

Tanaka would have been a very good, versatile signing for us in midfield, but you have to trust the talent ID of the board and Farke.

There’s no denying that the club are keen on bringing in a midfielder before the window shuts in a few days’ time.

You would expect that the moves to sign players are going to ramp up in the next 24 hours in order to have players in the door for the Sheffield Wednesday meeting.
