Transfer Deadline Day: 5 Tottenham players who could depart and 5 who could join

Transfer deadline day has arrived, and Ange Postecoglou is still hard at work in the sales department as Tottenham Hotspur attempts to get any last-minute acquisitions and grant a few outgoings.

Spurs have already boosted their squad with the additions of James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario this summer. Manor Solomon and Micky van de Ven have also agreed to relocate to north London. However, their sale of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich removed the club’s talisman.

Kane was frequently at the center of everything at Tottenham and thrived even while the club faltered. Only Son Heung-Min, who has already taken over as captain, scored in double figures in the Premier League in 2022/23. He scored 10 times to Kane’s 30.

Richarlison has been tasked by Postecoglou with filling Kane’s hole. However, Tottenham may yet pursue a striker transfer on deadline day. Last season, the Brazilian only scored once in 29 league outings. During the eight cup matches, he scored twice more.

Tottenham have until September 1 at 23:00 BST to complete their deals before the transfer deadline. La Liga clubs have till 23:00 to sign any Spurs players. While all Bundesliga clubs must play by 17:00, Serie A teams must play by 19:00, and Ligue 1 teams must play by 22:00.

Tottenham Hotspur’s possible deadline-day signings

Lautaro Martinez, the Inter Milan striker, is one striker who might join Tottenham on deadline day. According to Ben Jacobs, while the Argentine would demand a high cost, Spurs ‘would love’ to sign him. There have even been inquiries from people in north London.

Inter Milan, on the other hand, has consistently stated to Tottenham that they will not sanction a deal for Martinez. Despite the Nerazzurri’s financial difficulties, the striker is untouchable at San Siro. In 2022/23, the 26-year-old, who won the World Cup in 2022, scored 28 goals and assisted on 11 others.

Tottenham is also interested in Brennan Johnson of Nottingham Forest as an attacking option for a deadline day move. Jacobs adds that Spurs and Liverpool simply need to agree on a fee, with the 22-year-old preferring a move to Postecoglou’s side.

Chelsea even dropped their pursuit of Johnson in part due to his desire to join Tottenham in a late-season deal. The Blues expected him to turn down a transfer to Stamford Bridge for Spurs. Wales’s international, who can also feature on the wings, scored 10 times in 22/23.

Postecoglou is also interested in Tottenham making some deadline-day defensive reinforcements. Jacobs also mentions that the Spurs respect Piero Hincapie of Bayer Leverkusen. However, the 21-year-old is also being courted by Liverpool, whom he would ‘love’ to join, and West Ham United.

Tottenham are also looking for midfielders on deadline day. Spurs are still interested in signing Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, according to Jacobs. However, the Blues will not sell him for less than £45-50 million. Gallagher is also wanted by Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United.

Five players who could yet depart Tottenham before the transfer window closes

Outgoings are also expected at Tottenham on deadline day, as Postecoglou seeks to get rid of the club’s lingering deadwood. Tottenham have already found a new home for Harry Winks at Leicester City. Meanwhile, Joe Rodon has rejoined Leeds United on loan in the Championship.

According to Jacobs, Fulham are also interested in signing Eric Dier from Tottenham before the transfer deadline. Meanwhile, Rudy Galetti believes that Real Betis have held conversations with Tottenham about loaning Giovani Lo Celso. It could entail a purchase commitment.

According to Sport, FC Barcelona has even discussed a temporary move of Lo Celso with Tottenham. Spurs, though, turned down the Blaugrana’s loan request, insisting on a permanent deal.

Hugo Lloris, Tottenham’s former captain, is another likely deadline day departure from north London. Vicario has taken over as Spurs’ starting goalkeeper. Fabrice Hawkins, though, points out that the Frenchman has rejected a two-year contract with Lazio and might yet stay.

According to Darren Lewis, a Tottenham player who actively wants to leave the club is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Postecoglou made it clear early on that the 28-year-old is not a vital component of his plans. This season, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma have also impressed.

Tanguy Ndombele has also been benched by Postecoglou. As a result, the Frenchman may now be an outgoing at Tottenham on deadline day. Hawkins also mentions Galatasaray’s interest in Ndombele, who has turned down transfers to other clubs.
