Spurs will pay £45 million plus add-ons for Brennan Johnson; forward will have medical in London before finalizing deal before Friday’s 11 p.m. deadline; Spurs and Nottingham Forest must still finalize payment arrangement before deal can be finalized.

Tottenham and Nottingham Forest have agreed a fee for Brennan Johnson.

The forward is currently on his way to London for a medical before completing the transfer before Friday’s 11 p.m. deadline.

Spurs will pay more than £45 million for Johnson, while more conversations with Forest are required regarding the payment method.

Forest are now ready to move forward with a deal for PSV midfielder Ibrahima Sangare, who is already in London and can pass a physical there.

Forest required the proceeds from the sale of Johnson in order to press forward with their acquisition of Sangare while remaining compliant with Financial Fair Play requirements.

Forest were unwilling to sell Johnson and demanded a bid in the neighborhood of their £50 million asking price.

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to replace Johnson at the East Midlands.

Brentford were also interested in Johnson, although Chelsea have recently cooled their interest.

Before signing Johnson, Spurs investigated Barcelona’s Ansu Fati, who joined Brighton on Friday, and Johan Bakayoko, who is poised to stay at PSV after turning down a transfer to Brentford.

The 22-year-old will help to fill the void left by Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich earlier this summer.

Spurs would prefer to sign a versatile forward capable of playing in a range of forward positions rather than a typical No 9.

Johnson’s versatility would provide crucial depth, according to Sky Sports football journalist Joe Shread:

Johnson is not a direct replacement for Harry Kane, but that is good with Tottenham.

Spurs are naturally looking to bolster their forward line after losing their all-time leading scorer to Bayern Munich earlier this summer.

However, the north London club is not looking to replace their most successful No 9 with a player of a similar type.
