Blackburn Rovers midfielder John Buckley has joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan.

The Owls have beaten the deadline to capture Rovers’ man Buckley, who will join on a season-long loan arrangement from their Championship rivals

In a last-minute deadline day move, Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the loan signing of Blackburn Rovers’ John Buckley. The midfielder joins Hillsborough on a season-long loan and becomes the club’s 12th signing of the frantic summer transfer window.

The signing is the Owls’ final piece of business on a deadline day that also saw them recruit Jeff Hendrick from Newcastle United on loan.

Buckley appeared to be on his way out earlier in the day, with a permanent move to Swansea City on the cards. However, the transaction fell through, and Buckley made it clear that he intended to stay in the north, with a move to S6 being his favoured option.

It is now a reality, and the 23-year-old will join Hendrick, Barry Bannan, George Byers, Tyreeq Bakinson, Will Vaulks, and Momo Diaby in the midfield.

Buckley and Hendrick both arrived too late to be registered for Saturday’s game against Leeds United. They could make their debuts after the international break on September 16, when Wednesday host Ipswich Town.

Buckley has made nearly a century of league appearances with Rovers, where he has been since he was six years old. Yorkshire Live understands that Rovers approved a recall option, which they may contemplate triggering in January.
