Hugo Lloris: Tottenham to cancel deal following late drama, according to sources
According to Football Insider, Tottenham could terminate Hugo Lloris’ contract if he fails to negotiate a deadline-day move.
The Spurs star, 36, was approached by Nice when they ripped up Kasper Schmeichel’s contract and was offered a late move to Premier League team Newcastle.
However, Lloris was unable to reach an agreement and is remaining in north London despite being barred from playing by new boss Ange Postecoglou.
The France World Cup winner has one year left on his contract and was given permission to look for a new club over the summer.
Spurs may now agree to pay off their long-serving manager and let him go as a free agent.
Following Postecoglou’s appointment, Lloris has been replaced in the Tottenham goal.
Gugliemo Vicario came from Empoli early in the summer window for a rumoured cost of £17.2 million.
So far, the Italian has appeared in all three Premier League games, preserving two clean sheets and conceding two goals.
Fraser Forster also played in goal against Fulham in the League Cup earlier this week (29 August), with Lloris missing every matchday squad this season.
Last season, the long-serving Spurs player made 31 appearances across all competitions before being replaced in the second half due to a combination of injury concerns and poor form.
Lloris joined Tottenham from Lyon in 2021 and has since made 447 appearances for the club, 361 of which have come in the Premier League.
On Saturday (2 September), Postecoglou’s team will face freshly promoted Burnley at Turf Moor.
