Sunderland given contract boost amid Rangers transfer interest as starlet signs new contract, according to sources.

Sunderland have reportedly received a contract extension for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

According to rumors, Sunderland youngster Tom Watson has signed a new contract.

As he entered the last year of his two-year scholarship contract, the England youth star was garnering interest from Rangers and other Premier League clubs.

However, on deadline day, the Daily Mail reported that the 17-year-old midfielder had signed his first professional deal at the Academy of Light.

Watson’s progress paralleled Rigg’s past season, culminating in him earning his debut against Huddersfield Town.

However, eyebrows were raised when Watson did not play in Sunderland’s preseason due to contract and transfer uncertainty. Watson, meanwhile, is said to have had a back ailment near the end of last season and is still working his way back.

Tony Mowbray’s team trounced Southampton by five goals on Saturday in the Championship, with Rigg scoring for the Black Cats.
