Jesse Lingard’remains hopeful,’ wants to impress West Ham United manager David Moyes, and ‘may sign at any time.’

According to The Athletic, Jesse Lingard “remains hopeful of impressing” David Moyes in order to be re-signed by the West Ham manager.

On Saturday morning (2 September), the outlet said on their website that the 30-year-old “could sign at any time” as a free agent, as he continues to train with the club to improve his fitness after appearing only four times for Nottingham Forest in 2023.

On deadline day, it was revealed that he would not be getting a contract since he has not yet reached the required level, and the manager has stated that he is not yet ready to make a decision.

“Jesse’s doing quite well and he’s getting his shape back,” Moyes remarked, according to The Athletic. However, there will be no talk about Jesse. We’ll do it when we’re ready, but he’s working hard and has a terrific attitude about his work. It’s taken some time to bring him back into shape.”

Potential

The more recent Lingard is unlikely to contribute much to this West Ham side at the present, after his much-touted signing by Steve Cooper’s Forest last summer was a flop.

Essentially, his career has been on a downhill track since the end of his previous loan spell under Moyes two years ago, both at Manchester United and at the City Ground.

The Irons manager worked hard to lure him back after that, but he was kept at arm’s length, and now it appears Lingard needs the club more than they need him.

But he is undeniably talented when he is at his best, and if he can regain that form, Moyes would be crazy not to consider him, especially considering the ex-England international is already on the team.

It doesn’t appear to be happening anytime soon, but as long as the team keeps producing results, it won’t matter.

But if injuries start to bite as we approach the winter, there’s a good chance he’ll earn a short-term deal, unless another team comes in to surprise Moyes again.

In other West Ham news, Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester City has signed a player who departed the London Stadium.
