Blackburn Rovers’ injury list and anticipated comeback dates following Dom Hyam’s update

Blackburn Rovers were without numerous players against Plymouth Argyle, including Dom Hyam, who was substituted at half-time.

After losing to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, Blackburn Rovers had two weeks to recuperate and work on the training ground.

The 3-0 loss at Home Park was far from ideal for Jon Dahl Tomasson’s squad to end on. The scoreline did not reflect the entire game, with Rovers wasting opportunities in crucial times.

They enter the international break with seven points from their first five games. Two wins, two losses, and a draw were mixed in.

Tomasson knows who he’ll be working with for the rest of the season now that the transfer window has closed. Injuries have also contributed to the squad being stretched in the early stages of the season.

So, will anyone be returning after the international break? Here’s the latest on Rovers’ injury situation.

Hyam, Dom

At Home Park, the Blackburn Rovers defender was hauled off due to illness. As a result, he should be returning after the international break.

“He wasn’t feeling well,” Tomasson explained. I’m not sure why; it could be because it’s been a really busy week with a lot of traveling and sitting in a bus with air conditioning.”

Joe Rankin-Costello

The right-back missed both games last week after sustaining a groin injury against Watford. He is expected back after the international break with the injury not thought to be serious.

What Tomasson said: “Joe is not ready. It is not one that will take a really long time but he will not be able to play (against Plymouth).

Expected return date: September 16, Middlesbrough (H)

Niall Ennis

The striker suffered a knee injury against Rotherham United which has setback his start to life at Ewood Park. He was initially ruled out for two weeks by Tomasson.

What Tomasson said: “I feel sorry for the boy because I think he had shown some good progress and some good football. He was almost getting into shape and now it is a setback.”

Expected return date: September 16, Middlesbrough (H)

Arnor Sigurdsson

The summer signing is yet to kick a ball for Rovers in a competitive game after injuring his groin in pre-season. He could return to training after the international break but Rovers want to be careful managing his load after two months out.

What Tomasson said: “No, he is not ready yet (to play behind closed doors). When we have the break they will have three or four days off and some players will travel away. Hopefully, he can then start to train and get some minutes. It’s step by step but it’s going in the right direction which is positive.”

Expected return date: By October.

The young defender is facing four months on the sidelines after sustaining a thigh injury. It’s a huge blow for the Rovers academy graduate after just returning from a long-term knee injury.

What Tomasson said: “Joe is not ready. It is not one that will take a really long time but he will not be able to play (against Plymouth).

Expected return date: Unknown
