West Ham United boss David Moyes has approved another new signing at the London Stadium, following the free transfer of Jesse Lingard.

According to Daily Mail columnist Simon Jones, who wrote on Monday 4 September, the East Londoners are prepared to offer the former Manchester United and Nottingham Forest player a short-term incentive during the international break.

Jones said in his Transfer Confidential on Monday that the former Lingard will most likely return to the London Stadium for a second stint after impressing during his time training with the Irons.

Moyes is keen to add to his attacking options having failed to sign a striker before the end of the transfer window and this news comes after it emerged on deadline day that he wasn’t set to get a contract yet as he hasn’t reached the required level, with Moyes yet to decide on his fate.

The Athletic reported on 2 September that Lingard remained hopeful of impressing the Scottish manager and that the 30-year-old “could sign at any time” as a free agent, as he continues training with the team to build up his fitness after playing only four times in 2023 at Nottingham Forest.

The England international certainly endured a tough spell in the Midlands, failing to prove why Forest paid him the big bucks to make him their marquee 2022 summer acquisition.

However, it appears that Moyes has sanctioned another fresh transfer in East London after successfully completing deals for Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, and Konstantinos Mavropanos.

With a return to the London Stadium now on the cards, Lingard appears to be the ideal bet for West Ham, who need additional offensive options ahead of their Europa League adventure this month.

Moyes and the club board have certainly handled the Lingard saga with care and consideration after providing him with the resources to regain his fitness, having trained with the first team throughout the summer, and it would not have been a quick decision to include him in the team given his recent struggles.

However, with Jones’ newest development,

Lingard, a driven and motivated player, has shown to be one of the most entertaining and effective players in the Premier League, as evidenced by his 14 goal contributions in only 16 league games at the London Stadium during the 2020/21 season.

Whether Lingard can reach those levels again remains to be known, but Moyes knows him well and vice versa, and the London Stadium remains the perfect place for the 30-year-old to rediscover himself. A fantastic opportunity for all parties concerned.

In other West Ham news, if the Hammers had made a last-ditch attempt to recruit one of their London Stadium targets, he may have cost as little as £15 million.
