When Declan Rice left, Everton assumed West Ham would try to sign him.

After Declan Rice departed Everton this summer, there was speculation that West Ham may try to recruit Amadou Onana.

According to The Athletic, they shared a behind-the-scenes look at Everton’s summer window.

West Ham eventually replaced Rice with Edson Alvarez from Ajax after their previous captain joined Arsenal.

The Hammers also strengthened their midfield with the signing of James Ward-Prowse, who has made an impressive debut in East London.

However, it appears that Everton expected West Ham to sign Amadou Onana soon after Rice left.

Everton expected West Ham to make an offer for Onana.
According to The Athletic, West Ham considered signing Onana earlier this summer.

This was after the Hammers sold Rice to Arsenal, but Moyes instead signed Alvarez from Ajax.

It’s noted there is also a belief at Everton that if Onana enjoys a positive start to the campaign, it will only increase interest in the midfielder.

Since joining Goodison Park from LOSC Lille last summer, Onana has sparked a lot of attention.

Despite a difficult moment for the club, the 22-year-old has impressed at Everton and has fans in the Premier League.

Arsenal and Chelsea have both been widely linked with a deal for the Belgian midfielder.

Of course, Onana’s move did not materialize this summer, and West Ham had a promising summer window.

Ward-Prowse has made an immediate impact, while Alvarez has shown promise in the early parts of his West Ham career.

But it will be interesting to watch if West Ham revive their interest in Onana in the future, particularly if he becomes available next summer.
