Blackburn Rovers promotion hero Charlie Mulgrew has retired from football, aged 37.

Mulgrew scored 27 goals in blue and white for Rvers, most known for his deadly set-pieces. He went on to make over 100 appearances for the club before loan moves at Wigan Athletic and Fleetwood Town.

The 37-year-old ended his career in native Scotland with Dundee United, making 24 appearances last term whilst being capped 44 times for his country. He has now announced his retirement, thanking Rovers amongst the seven other clubs he turned out for.

“It’s not an easy decision as playing football is all I’ve known,” he said. “Firstly, I’d like to thank my family and friends for all your support, belief, loyalty and love you have given me over the last 21 years. You all had to make sacrifices along with me to follow my dream.
