Celtic-linked forward completes loan move to Greek giants

Celtic-linked Daniel Podence has joined Greek giants Olympiakos on a season-long loan.

The forward was reportedly of interest to the Hoops during the summer transfer window.

He scored six times for Wolves in the Premier League last season and signed a contract extension with the midlands club before making the move to Greece.

The Portuguese’s deal runs at Molineux until 2025 and Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs feels he still has a future at the club.

It’s no secret that Daniel was keen to look at new options,” he said. “This is an opportunity for him to go back where he was and play European football, and he was great in understanding that for us to allow it, he had to sign a contract.

“There’s still a possibility Daniel comes back and plays for Wolves again, but it was the right time to let him go and play this season.”

Meanwhile, Celtic hero Chris Sutton has praised the Hoops’ ability to “win ugly” after their victory against Rangers at Ibrox.

The Scottish champions ran out 1-0 winners after a strike from Kyogo Furuhashi at the end of the first half.

It is a result that puts the Parkhead club top of the league on goal difference, on the same points as Motherwell.

Writing in his Daily Record column, he said: “Rodgers wants silky football and has no doubt it will come but, in some respects, the manner of the triumph may have been even sweeter in the fact they had to battle and scrap in the second period.

“Patched up at the back, missing key players, boys like Scales rose to the occasion while highly-touted Rangers players flopped.

“It’s all right having the talent, but you need the traits to win ugly and do the dirty work and Rodgers’ team proved they have that quality.
