On deadline day, West Ham attempted to sell a player who had an assist every four games for the Hammers.

If we had been successful in signing Filip Kostic, West Ham would have sold a player to Everton on transfer deadline day.

According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, if West Ham had signed Juventus’ Filip Kostic, one of our players would have departed on deadline day to join Everton.

It was a busy summer transfer window for Hammers boss David Moyes, with four new signings coming in, as well as the addition of Andy Irvine, who was immediately loaned back to SK Austria Klagenfurt for the season.

In addition to that, Declan Rice, Gianluca Scamacca, Arthur Masuaku and Nikola Vlasic were all sold, whilst Manuel Lanzini was released.

It seems as though another first-team player was very close to the exit door as well…

West Ham tried to sell player with an assist every four games for the Hammers on deadline day

Had the Hammers signed Kostic on deadline day, Maxwel Cornet would now be an Everton player according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.

The 26-year-old has really struggled since joining West Ham from Burnley last summer.

His stats are somewhat misleading, with five assists to his name in 22 games for the Hammers (Transfermarkt).

Most of those came early on in the Europa Conference League, and after he suffered an injury playing for West Ham against Wolves in early October, he was give just 202 minutes of action during the remainder of the season by David Moyes when he returned to full fitness in March.

There is obviously something about Cornet that Moyes doesn’t like, and that’s fine. It’s a shame that he’s barely being given a chance though.

That said, with Europa League and Carabao Cup games set to start after the international break, he will surely be given a chance to show Moyes what he’s capable of.

Perhaps it’s not too late for Maxwel Cornet to salvage his West Ham career, after his failed move away from the London Stadium on deadline day.
