JUST IN : ‘Whispers coming out of the club,’ according to a reporter, who has heard the 18-year-old is very excelling at Tottenham training right now.

Tottenham made a number of high-profile additions this summer, but one who may have gone unnoticed is Ashley Phillips from Blackburn.

The 18-year-old joined Spurs from the Lancashire club earlier this summer, and we haven’t heard much about him since.

However, according to Marcus Buckland of The Tottenham Way Podcast, Phillips is doing well in his early days at Spurs.

According to the reporter, rumors from Tottenham suggest that Phillips is particularly impressing there, and that a first-team opportunity could be on the way.

Phillips impressing

Buckland shared what he’s heard about the defender.

“Ok, so Ashley Phillips, the whispers coming out of the club, and you guys will have your ears much closer to the ground than I do in that regard is that he’s really impressing, Phillips in the early days. There’s Eric Dier, we could play Emerson Royal as a central defender and there’s Ben Davies too,” Buckland said.

Phillips is still young, so he can afford to wait at Tottenham, but we can’t help but think he’ll get a shot at the club at some point.

Indeed, with Davinson Sanchez already out and Eric Dier obviously out, Phillips could get a chance if either Cristian Romero or Micky Van de Ven suffer an injury or a ban this season.

The teenager may be young, but he appears to be performing well in training, and he could be in line for a chance at Spurs before long.

“He’s really good,” a Tottenham player said of Ange Postecoglou’s impact on the team.

Tottenham Hotspur selected Ange Postecoglou as their new manager on June 6th, and they’ve had a solid start to the season under his guidance, with three victories from four games. Tottenham are now second in the table, two points behind leaders Manchester City.

Last season, the north London team finished eighth, missing out on European contention. Postecoglou has rapidly managed to turn things around at Tottenham, and Dejan Kulusevski is overjoyed.

“I’m delighted things are going well. The team is excellent. We have a great coach, we’ve played well, and we’ve scored a lot of goals,” he told Fotbollskanalen.

So it’s evident that it’s a lot of fun. When things are going well, you should enjoy it.”
Spurs won only two of their final ten league games of the 2022/23 season, and the Sweden international was questioned if he was shocked by how much his team has progressed this season.
In response, the 23-year-old winger discussed the former Celtics coach’s influence on him and his teammates.

“Actually, yes. We had a difficult season finale last year. He came in with a lot of zest and it all went really swiftly. Of course, we are all taken aback. But he’s fantastic,” Kulusevski explained.

“We’re a young team, and everyone wants to play like this.” I’m not saying that.

We did something terribly wrong before, but it was something entirely different. I believe it is easier to come to training every day knowing that you should play with the ball, attack, and run forward rather than backward. As a result, it is apparent that all of us players did everything we could to listen as much as possible.”

Tottenham have performed admirably despite the loss of their top scorer, Harry Kane, to Bayern Munich in August. Last season, the England international scored 30 league goals, and the former Juventus player said, “we thought he’d stay.”
