New injury worry as Newcastle star suffers ‘muscle issue’ in World Cup qualifier on Friday

During Paraguay’s World Cup qualifying match against Peru, Miguel Almiron experienced a “muscle issue” and will “undergo further tests” to see how serious of an injury it may be.

The 29-year-old played the entire match as La Albirroja’s season opener on Friday ended in a 0-0 stalemate, but he appeared uncomfortable as he departed the field.

Almiron has started each of Newcastle’s Premier League games thus far as he seeks to recapture the outstanding form he shown near the close of 2022.

Given our lack of depth at right wing, it is thought that the former Atlanta United player will similarly follow a recovery plan and hopes to be available for our match against Brentford the following Saturday.

We have some hope that the winger’s injury is not serious because Paraguay head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto said that the player will fly to Venezuela before their upcoming qualifier on Tuesday.

£55m Newcastle target scores twice for country last night, top scouts were watching – Romano

According to Fabrizio Romano, at least five scouts from elite European teams were in Slovenia last night keeping an eye on a striker who has been linked to a transfer to Newcastle United.

Newcastle decided against giving in to the temptation to add another striker this summer and will rely primarily on Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak to provide the team’s offensive punch in 2023–24.

In case the worst happens, Eddie Howe also has players like Joelinton and Anthony Gordon who have both led the line at various points in their careers.

The season has off to an incredible start for Benjamin Sesko.
Prior to signing Alexander Isak last year, Newcastle was very interested in Benjamin Sesko, a Slovenian striker who was then playing for RB Salzburg.

Sesko, 20, switched one Red Bull for another by moving from RB Salzburg to RB Leipzig, where he is already making headlines, after Newcastle were unable to get him. Although the agreement was confirmed in August 2022, the move wasn’t finalized until the first of July 2023.

Sesko grabbed a brace in RB Leipzig’s recent 3-0 win over Union Berlin and now last night he scored one for his country while assisting two more in a 4-2 win over Northern Ireland.

Now Fabrizio Romano has taken to X to praise Sesko’s form but also noted that there were several scouts watching on from top European clubs.

Sesko was watched by five clubs last night, was Newcastle one of them? Romano doesn’t mention who the clubs were, but I, along with other fans on social media are certainly hoping that Newcastle was one of them and are looking to reignite their interest.

At just 20 Sesko looks the complete package already, and while a striker still isn’t a priority for Newcastle, when one this good could potentially be snapped up, it would be foolish not to go for it. He’s only just signed for Leipzig, but they do have a reputation for selling their young talent for a large profit. Although, the deal to bring Sesko to Leipzig cost a reported £55million, so Newcastle would be forced to part with a hefty sum were they to try and lure him to England.
