It has been revealed that Michael Beale was previously instructed to sign Ryan Porteous for the Rangers.

Kevin Thomson, a former midfielder for Hibernian and Rangers, has admitted that he previously told the Englishman about the defender.

Last night, the Watford defender scored his first goal for Scotland as Steve Clarke’s team defeated Cyprus to advance significantly toward Euro 2024.

He has been an important member of the national team’s defense, lining up on the right side of the defense with Jack Hendry and Kieran Tierney.

He left Scottish football in January of this year after being acquired by Watford for less than £500K from Hibs.

Thomson is still in disbelief that the 24-year-old cost the Championship team so little.

When Beale was the first-team coach at Rangers, working under Steven Gerrard, Thomson used to coach in the academy system there about four years ago.

He admitted to BBC Sportsound today that he told Beale Porteous had enormous potential.

“£450K for Ryan Porteous, it’s a steal, Watford must be rubbing their hands,” he said. In fact, while I was coaching in the academy at Rangers, I advised Mick Beale to sign him.

Midfielder Michael Stewart, a former Hibs and Hearts player, entered and said, “That’d of gone down well.”

He would have gained the same notoriety as I do, Thomson retorted. All of them are growing. I don’t mean to be disparaging to Watford, but I think someone will test their fortitude soon given Ryan’s performances.

Former footballer Lawrence Shankland suggests a switch from the Hearts to the Rangers.

A former player for both teams has suggested that Lawrence Shankland might be transferred from Hearts to Rangers.

If the Scotland international maintains his goal-scoring form for the Jambos, Ian Black believes he might leave Tynecastle in January.

Shankland has five goals in nine games so far this season while serving with Steve Clarke’s team on international service.

This comes after the 28-year-old’s incredible campaign from his previous outing, in which he scored 28 goals in 47 games.

The former Dundee United and Ayr player has previously been associated with both Rangers and Celtic.

The most current explanation provided by Kris Boyd was that he was baffled as to why neither Old Firm team had sought a transfer for Shankland.
