The three Coventry City players that could end up saving the team millions

We examined three Coventry City youth players who may one day save the team from having to pay transfer fees.

Coventry City plans to put up another fight for promotion in the Championship this year.

The Sky Blues had a fantastic season and finished fifth in the second division, but they were heartbroken when Luton Town defeated them on penalties in the play-off final at Wembley in May.

Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer, a great combo for Coventry, left this summer, but Mark Robins received major support from owner Doug King in the transfer market, resulting in the arrival of 11 new players at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Opportunities for young players this season are likely to be restricted due to the Sky Blues’ massive recruitment effort, although the club’s academy is generating a number of promising young players.

In light of this, we examined three young players who might one day save the club money on transfer expenses.

When he came on as a late substitute during Coventry’s 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough in August, striker Andrews earned his senior debut.

Chris Allen, the assistant senior professional development phase coach, was happy to see Andrews play for the first team but urged him to keep pushing himself to reach his full potential.

Allen told the club’s official website that it was a “fantastic achievement for the club itself and for Kai as an individual.”

You simply don’t rest on your laurels, though. He’s been on for maybe ten seconds, which is fantastic, but don’t get carried away since he hasn’t accomplished anything.

“All you have to do is buckle down, work diligently, and participate as much as you can,”

The 17-year-old Andrews has definitely made an effect on his teammates, as evidenced by midfielder Ben Sheaf’s praise of the teenager for his attitude ever since making the transition to the senior group.

He arrived at the beginning of this preseason and trained exceptionally well. He deserves his chance since he is a decent kid, Sheaf told the club’s official website.

He worked out well this week, and since the coach won’t give anyone a chance to start or an opportunity, he must be of high caliber. He only needs to focus and push himself.

Strikers are renowned for being the most expensive and challenging players to sign. This summer, Coventry broke their transfer record to sign Wright from Antalyaspor for a fee of £7.7 million.

Andrews will undoubtedly require some time and consideration as he adjusts to the Championship, but if he keeps improving, he might end up being a valuable asset for the Sky Blues in the future.

Last season, Burroughs had his breakout season at the club, making 14 appearances across all competitions.

The 22-year-old, who can play either wingback or in midfield, has been a Sky Blue since he was seven years old and in June he agreed to a new two-year contract.

Burroughs has been a regular for Mark Kennedy’s team so far this season while on loan at League One club Lincoln City.

Burroughs might force his way into contention for a starting position when he returns to the Coventry Building Society Arena next summer if he can maintain his success at Sincil Bank.

After the 1-0 victory against West Brom in December, Robins called Burroughs a “Premier League athlete” and had high regard for the Scotland U21 international.

“What Jack does is make things difficult for defenders because, athletically speaking, he is a Premier League athlete. If he feels more at ease, he could do anything. Robins told Coventry Live, “He’s really, really excellent, and I like what he’s doing right now.

The following year, on just his second appearance for the team, striker Tavares scored a late equalizer against Preston North End after joining the Sky Blues from Rochdale in February 2021.

The 22-year-old was still a part of the first squad last season and made 11 appearances across all competitions, but his season was cut short when he sustained a catastrophic Achilles injury in the FA Cup match against Wrexham in January.

After joining the Sky Blues from Rochdale in February 2021, forward Tavares scored a late equalizer against Preston North End on just his second outing for the team the following season.

The 22-year-old played 11 times in all competitions while still a member of the first team last season, but his campaign was cut short when he suffered a severe Achilles injury in the FA Cup encounter against Wrexham in January.
