Napoli want to sign Giovani Lo Celso on loan

Napoli are keen to sign Giovani Lo Celso on loan this summer, but Tottenham would only agree if they include an obligation-to-buy clause.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli are reportedly interested in signing Giovani Lo Celso but only on loan. The Serie A champions will ask for a buy option, but Tottenham are only prepared to sanction a move if there’s an obligation to buy clause included.

Tottenham are desperate to sell some unwanted stars, including Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele. The latter had a mixed season with Napoli on loan. The Italian side have decided against making his signing permanent.

While he returns to Spurs, Napoli are keen to take Lo Celso for the upcoming season. They want to understand if the €32 million Tottenham star could arrive on loan. The Italian champions were open to signing Ndombele earlier but saw a €20 million bid rejected. The north London side wanted the €30 million option inserted in the loan contract.

Hence, Napoli are now showing interest in Lo Celso to replace Ndombele. He will have a prominent role in the upcoming season, but nothing comes guaranteed. The Serie A giants want the Argentine midfielder on loan but are ready to include an option to buy.

With Spurs keen to offload the €32 million midfielder, they may not get favourable deals to sell him in this market. Lo Celso has spent the last 18 months on loan to Villarreal. So far, clubs have only enquired about taking him on loan.

With a contract left until 2025, Spurs may have to integrate him into Ange Postecoglu’s setup if they cannot solve his situation. Real Betis are also interested but want their former player only on loan. They have financial restrictions to make a permanent deal.

Then the Napoli idea of a loan deal may have made Spurs think about the move. With their prior experience with the Serie A side and how the Ndombele deal transpired, Tottenham are wary of having only a buy option. If the Italians decide against signing him next summer, Lo Celso will return to north London.

Tottenham are open to loaning him only if there’s an obligation-to-buy clause. Any movement from Napoli over this demand would depend on Spurs’ asking price for the Argentine midfielder. They could do a deal if the price is less and within their valuation of the midfielder.

It may appear that Napoli would not prefer to have an obligation to buy. It could lead to friction between the two sides. Tottenham could still talk to the Italians to figure out a solution, as they remain desperate to offload the unwanted Argentine.
