Pierre Ekwah makes an allegation about his move from West Ham to Sunderland.
Ekwah is plainly certain that he was fated to end up at the Stadium of Light.
Speaking openly to the Sunderland Echo, Pierre Ekwah believes his January move from West Ham United to Sunderland was predestined.
The midfielder was a product of the Irons’ academy but failed to break into the first squad at the London Stadium and never made a professional, competitive appearance for David Moyes’ side.
He sat on the bench for a lot of their first-team games, but was never called upon, which was a major disappointment for Ekwah when he made the winter transition to the Stadium of Light.
How has Pierre Ekwah fared since joining Sunderland?
In an April match, Ekwah had a nightmare as they conceded a penalty to Hull City, allowing the Tigers to steal a point.
However, he hasn’t looked back since, playing incredibly well for much of the second half of last season and shining in the play-offs, turning in a fantastic performance against Luton Town in the second leg and demonstrating his ability to step up to the plate in big games.
Given his lack of senior experience, his performances were astounding, and he has been brilliant once again this season, scoring twice against Southampton in a 5-0 win before the international break.
During the summer transfer window, he drew interest from Stuttgart, and interest in his signature will only grow if he continues to perform well for Tony Mowbray’s side.
Fortunately for the Black Cats, he’s under contract until 2027, which will enhance their negotiating position when bids for the Frenchman arrive.

Given that the Irons are now in the Premier League and that he was so close to making his debut, it’s understandable that Ekwah is still disappointed that he didn’t make an impression for Moyes’ side.
But Ekwah believes he was born to play in the Stadium of Light.
“I think it was a good recruitment,” he stated. Sunderland made a solid hire, in my opinion.
“If I didn’t make it (at West Ham), it could mean I wasn’t ready to play.” The coach (Moyes) had his reasons for not allowing me to participate.
“I think my path, I was meant to be here, and that’s it.”
Was Pierre Ekwah’s choice to join Sunderland the right one?
This relocation to the Stadium of Light has proven to be a wise decision for the Frenchman.
He may have needed to take a step back, but he has won a lot of game time at the Stadium of Light, and it’s hard to imagine him losing his starting spot anytime soon.
Even if the Black Cats do not get promotion, it appears like a move to the Premier League or another top European league is simply a matter of time.
For the time being, he has the opportunity to play for an exciting, young team.
He will have highs and lows with the club, but the rest of his tenure at the Stadium of Light will most likely be fruitful.
