Sergio Ramos ‘rejected Manchester United to return to Sevilla’

Sergio Ramos reportedly turned down the chance to make the move to Manchester United this summer in order to return to boyhood club Sevilla on a free transfer. The 37-year-old departed Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expired at the end of June, and he was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer. There is also believed to have been interest from the MLS, but Ramos has completed a return to Sevilla, 18 years after leaving Estadio Ramon for Real Madrid.

According to The Sun, after Raphael Varane’s injury, Man United approached the experienced centre-back, offering him a one-year contract worth £73,000 a week. However, the report claims that the former Spain international immediately turned down the bid, as he was only interested in securing a return to Sevilla.

Ramos broke down in tears when addressing his return to Estadio Ramon, admitting that he had remorse about his departure from the club and his celebration in front of the Sevilla fans when he scored against them in 2018.

“Today is a special day.” “I’m finally home, and I’m looking forward to putting on the Sevilla shirt and pulling on this badge,” he told Sevilla TV.

“Eighteen years have passed since I left, I believe I made mistakes, and I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to any Sevilla player who has felt offended by things and gestures I could have done at the time.” We’re all on the same boat, we’re all related, and there are far too many people outside to fight amongst ourselves.

“Talking about my grandfather makes me emotional.” He left here crying, which is the image I left with. Finally, we’ve been Sevilla fans since we were born.

“My grandfather’s last memory is of leaving here (from the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan) and hearing people whistle for his grandson.”

“Of course, I considered it when making a decision.” We didn’t earn it. It did not harm or penalize us as a family or as fans, in my opinion. When a point like this occurs, you will receive numerous offers.

“I don’t like talking. But we had the option to stay in Paris. Far away from home, from both Seville and Madrid. “One looks back and sees how the years and opportunities have passed.”

Jonny Evans rejoined Manchester United on a free transfer on September 1, and the Northern Ireland international finished Sunday’s Premier League match against Arsenal alongside Harry Maguire.

Due to Varane’s injury, Victor Lindelof started alongside Lisandro Martinez, but the two center backs were substituted in the second half at the Emirates Stadium.

Lindelof and Martinez are anticipated to be available for Man United’s next Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion on September 16, which means Maguire and Evans will likely return to the bench at Old Trafford.
