Edson Alvarez is’more than thrilled’ at West Ham following a’very terrible’ start to the season.

Edson Alvarez expressed his joy at joining West Ham, but confessed his first few days at the club were “very bad” since he had to adjust to the intensity of training with no pre-season preparations.

At one point, the Mexican midfielder appeared to be on his way to German club Borussia Dortmund, but after that deal fell through, he moved to the London Stadium in a £35.4 million transfer (Sky Sports, 10 August) and stated his belief that everything occurs for a reason.

Alvarez had little time to adjust to the rigors of English football before making his debut off the bench against Chelsea on 20 August, but he believes he is now up to speed.

“There was a little bit on the Dortmund side that was a fairly specific option, and in the end, it couldn’t be,” Alvarez explained to the Mexican National Team’s official YouTube channel. “But there was a lot of rapprochements on their part, including visits to Amsterdam to meet my family.”

“I’ve always believed that everything happens for a purpose, that everything is wonderful and good. Now I am overjoyed with the decision I made to join West Ham, a team that has taught me a lot in just one month.

“The truth is that when you reach the best league in the world, it is something inexplicable.” When we closed it, I travelled to Amsterdam and then to London, but I had no training, so image coming at the intensity of the first days.

“I had a very bad time in terms of rhythm, but as the training progressed, it went very well for me and adapted to me quite well.”

“In any case, I know I still have a lot to learn because this is a league that tests you not only mentally but also physically.”

Declan Rice’s absence has been filled.

Alvarez has fit in perfectly in the base of David Moyes’ midfield, acting as a destroyer to break up play and deliver the ball to colleagues like James Ward-Prowse and Lucas Paqueta, who have been given space to flourish.

His role is perhaps the most crucial of the three, as he allows his colleagues to be more forward-thinking and expressive in their play, aiming to create chances for the forwards while bearing the brunt of defensive pressure.

West Ham will be thanking their lucky stars that his move to Borussia Dortmund fell through, and will be relying on his conviction that everything occurs for a reason. In this case, the reason was to assist the Hammers in meeting their season goals.

With Alvarez at the heart of the midfield and the attacking potential in this team allowed to flourish, the Hammers will want to capitalize on their excellent start and emulate their success from last season.

In other West Ham news, the club is competing with Chelsea to recruit a teenage striker.
