‘Switches off’: Pundit thinks 22-year-old Everton player is immature at times.

Michael Ball slammed Amadou Onana’s mindset.

Ball claimed in his Liverpool Echo column that the Everton midfielder will frequently’switch off,’ but that this is due to his age.

Onana joined Everton from Lille last summer and quickly established himself as one of the club’s top performers in his first season in the Premier League. The 22-year-old was briefly linked with a move away from Goodison Park, with Manchester United and Chelsea said to be keen.

Onana, on the other hand, has stayed at Everton and is set to become an even more vital player under Sean Dyche as the club attempts to avoid relegation for the third year in a row.

While the Belgian has mainly impressed during his time on Merseyside, Ball has admitted that his ‘young attitude’ has cost him down at times.

“Onana, you can see he’s a very talented lad,” Ball remarked. “However, you can see he switches off.”

“He’s got that young mentality – it’s not laziness, it’s just that he doesn’t believe he doesn’t need to do something and that opposition won’t hurt us, Sheffield United being a good example.” If you run two yards, that cross will not happen.”

Amadou Onana will continue to be an outstanding performer in the coming years.

While Onana has flaws, he has only been in the Premier League for a year and people seem to forget that he turned 22 last month.

The Belgium international has plenty of time to iron out any flaws in his game and has the potential to be an outstanding player – whether that happens at Everton or elsewhere remains to be seen.

Interested parties were unwilling to pay the exorbitant cost Everton demanded to sell Onana this summer, but they could earn a significant profit if he left next summer.

The team must determine if it is worth keeping him or cashing in on a guy with so much promise.
