Birmingham City have signed Brazilian international Ivana Ferreira Fuso for a women’s club record price.
The 22-year-old joins the Blues on a two-year agreement from Manchester United, subject to league approval. The attacker spent the season on loan with Bayer Leverkusen in the Frauen Bundesliga, scoring once in 12 games.
Ferreira Fuso, who was born in Brazil and raised in Germany, began her childhood career with SV Boblingen before joining the program at SC Freiburg. She advanced to the first team during the 2017/18 season and spent time with Swiss club FC Basel before joining WSL side United in 2020.
She made her Red Devils debut against Everton in the Conti Cup and scored her maiden goal for the club against Durham in the same competition. In the Conti Cup, she scored her second goal for the club against rivals Manchester City.
She explained her decision to transfer to B9 to BluesTV, adding, “I’m really excited and I can’t wait to get started.” I appreciate the project with this Club; I believe they have huge goals and want to accomplish tremendous things.
“I want to push myself and believe in this project.” I believe in what this team is capable of. “I needed a new challenge and a new beginning.”
Hope Powell CBE, Women’s Technical Director, added: “The signing of Ivana is a statement of intent for this Club.” Birmingham City Women have a great history, are on the rise, and are the type of player we want to bring to this Football Club. The women’s squad will play an essential role in the Club’s transition. The foundations are being laid to allow us return to the top of the game.
“I am overjoyed that Ivana has chosen this Club to continue her footballing journey, and I can’t wait to see her play.”
Ferreira Fuso is Darren Carter’s seventh summer signing, following Remi Allen, Jade Moore, and Lily Agg through the door. City are three games into the new season and have only one point from a draw against Lewes.
The Blues travel to St Andrew’s on Sunday to face Charlton Athletic as they look for their first three points of the season. Following the international break, they will prepare for a difficult away match against Southampton.
