Djed Spence of Leeds United will be out for eight weeks due to a knee injury.

Leeds United have confirmed that summer loanee Djed Spence will be out for eight weeks after suffering a knee injury in training.

The 23-year-old was on the receiving end of a training ground tackle that broke his lateral collateral ligament, and he now faces a lengthy layoff.

Although Leeds have announced that the injury would not necessitate surgery, fans will have to wait until the end of the year to see their new star man in action.

During the summer transfer window, Spence joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur, with Daniel Farke looking to strengthen his backline ahead of the season.

The England under-21 international made his debut for the Yorkshire club earlier this month in a goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday and impressed with his outstanding cameo.

Spence, who came on in the 81st minute, contributed to Leeds’ clean sheet with a blocked shot and a tackle despite losing possession four times.

The Englishman was also dominant in ground fights, winning five of his six duels and finishing two of his three attempted dribbles.Spence gave Leeds fans much to cheer about, but his latest setback will be felt by both the player and his manager.

The injury forced him to miss the trip to East London, where Farke’s team defeated Millwall 3-0, thanks to a brace from Joel Piroe and an 81st-minute goal from Georginio Rutter.

Farke will have to rely on other options at right back, with Luke Ayling expected to keep his place after starting all of Leeds’ Championship games this season on the right side of the defense.

Despite playing on the opposite wing since returning to Elland Road, summer signing Sam Byram will serve as Ayling’s backup.
