Edson Alvarez, West Ham’s star summer purchase, has been ruled out of the club’s Europa League opener against Serbian side TSC Backa Topola.

For the first time in the club’s history, West Ham are preparing to embark on their third consecutive season of European play.

The return to the Europa League was a reward for the Hammers’ spectacular Europa Conference League victory in June.

TSC Backa Topola of Serbia will visit the London Stadium for the Hammers’ first Group A match.

And, after reaching the competition’s semi-finals the previous season, expectations are high.

El Machin is causing a stir in West Ham after immediately impressing Hammers fans.

West Ham made four fantastic additions in the summer, including Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, Konstantinos Mavropanos, and Mohammed Kudus.

The fact that both Alvarez and Ward-Prowse have struck the ground running as the club’s Declan Rice replacements says everything about West Ham’s business.

But it is El Machin Alvarez who many West Ham fans believe is crucial to David Moyes’ new-look side.

Edson Alvarez, West Ham’s star summer recruit, has been ruled out of the Europa League opener against TSC Backa Topola of Serbia.

Many feared the worse when he was taken off against Manchester City with the score at 1-1.

And those fears were justified, as the visitors scored two goals to turn the game on its head.

Many believe the goals, particularly the second, would not have occurred if Alvarez had been on the field.

West Ham’s star summer signing Alvarez is now ruled out of the Europa League match against TSC Backa Topola of Serbia.

Kudus makes his debut as Wets Ham begin their Europa League campaign?

But it has nothing to do with the problem that drove him off last time out, which was attributed to weariness.

It’s because the new West Ham hero is suspended for his role in Ajax’s Europa League defeat to Union Berlin in February.

Alvarez was issued a second yellow card in the final minute of the match, earning him a one-game suspension that rolls over to this year’s campaign.

That’s unfortunate for Moyes, but given his tiredness versus City, perhaps a break is just what he needs.

Who scored Ajax’s goal in that game? Who else than Kudus?

Let’s hope West Ham fans get to watch the £38 million guy make his debut and continue where he left off.
