Dionatan Teixeira, a former center back for Stoke City, passed away at age 25 after what appears to have been a heart attack.
His current club, Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova, reportedly said he fell unwell and passed away on Sunday in his native Brazil. This is according to BBC Sport.
After only making two senior appearances for the club due to injury, he joined the Potters in 2014 but left in January of this year.
He was remembered on Twitter by Stoke and Fleetwood Town, where he had a loan spell in 2015:
Tony Scholes, the club’s chief executive, was quoted by Fraser Nicholson for the Stoke City official website as saying: “Dionatan was a tremendously popular member of our squad and it’s tough to grasp that he went tragically at such a young age. His young family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers during this trying time.

The Stoke Sentinel’s Pete Smith also had positive memories of the defender.
Teixeira played for Stoke in two victories—a 2-1 triumph over Aston Villa in 2015 and a 3-1 triumph over Bournemouth in 2016.
The Brazilian played 10 times for Sheriff, helping them win the league and cup last season. Sheriff released a statement saying, “He will remain forever in our hearts.”
