Ashley Barnes of Norwich City could miss out on a return to Plymouth Argyle.

Due to a knee injury, the 33-year-old former Pilgrims striker was substituted during Norwich’s 2-0 Championship home defeat by Leicester City Friday night.

Ashley Barnes of Norwich City was having a scan today on what was thought to be a knee ligament injury ahead of the Canaries’ trip to Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Saturday.

The 33-year-old was forced off early in the second half of Norwich City’s 2-0 home Championship defeat by Leicester City yesterday night at Carrow Road, and was replaced by Republic of Ireland international Adam Idah. Barnes began his league career with Argyle after being bought from Paulton Rovers by then manager Ian Holloway in 2007 and went on to play for them in the Championship.

He spent a couple of loan periods with the Pilgrims but also made 16 starts and nine substitute appearances before joining Brighton and Hove Albion for an unknown price in the summer of 2010.

After the game against Leicester, Norwich manager David Wagner stated of Barnes, “It looks like a knee ligament injury.” How serious is it? We’ll see what happens once he has a scan tomorrow.”

Barnes joined Norwich City from Burnley in the summer, and his first goal for the club, scored in a 4-0 win over Huddersfield Town last month, was also his 100th in league play. The first came in Argyle colors in April 2009, during a 4-0 Championship victory over Coventry City at Home Park.

This season, the now-seasoned striker has started all seven Championship games for Norwich and scored twice. The Canaries are already missing US international attacker Josh Sargent until the new year after he suffered an ankle injury against Huddersfield.

Following their defeat by Leicester, Norwich stand fifth in the Championship table with 13 points. It occurred after they defeated Stoke City 1-0 last Saturday at Carrow Road.
