David Wagner says Norwich City’s ace will be out for “a few weeks.”
Ashley Barnes will be out for a few weeks with a knee injury, according to Norwich City manager David Wagner, but the striker will not require surgery.
Barnes, 33, was substituted just before the hour mark in Norwich City’s 2-0 loss to Leicester City in midweek.
And, speaking ahead of his side’s Championship match against Plymouth Argyle, Canaries manager Wagner disclosed that Barnes has a medial ligament knee problem.
Barnes will be out for a few weeks, according to Wagner, but the Englishman will not require surgery for the injury.
“He has a medial ligament knee injury that does not require surgery, but we will miss him for a few weeks,” Wagner explained.
Barnes joined Norwich City on a free transfer in the summer after being released by Burnley. Since then, the veteran striker has two goals and one assist in seven league appearances for the Canaries.
Wagner’s side now sits in fifth place in the Championship table, while tomorrow’s opponents Plymouth Argyle are in 18th place.
A miss for Norwich City
Barnes initially appeared to be an unimpressive signing. However, he has now demonstrated why Wagner brought him to the club with some great Championship performances.
And his absence will undoubtedly be felt by Norwich City, who have already lost two of their past three league games, against Rotherham United and Leicester.
Tomorrow’s trip to Plymouth is another long-distance one for Norwich, and a difficult one, with Steven Schumacher’s side proving they’re worthy of a place on the Championship roster this season.
Barnes is expected to return to action following the international break next month.
