Tottenham fends off a Newcastle United hijacking in order to finalize a new deal.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham fended off a late offer from Newcastle United to sign Hajduk Split wonderkid Luka Vuskovic.

Spurs confirmed the signing of the 16-year-old Croatian on Monday after reaching an agreement with Split, but he will not join the club until he is 18 in 2025.

Newcastle is thought to have shown an interest in Vuskovic and made contact about a possible trade.

However, they had been informed that Vuskovic had already opted to join Tottenham.

Football Insider has heard that the London club would pay Split £8.7 million for Vuskovic.

He has now made 11 appearances for the Croatian club but is yet to appear in the 2023-24 season.

The wonderkid, who signed a deal that will keep him at the club until 2030, will now continue his development in his home country before joining Tottenham in 2025.

Vuskovic has also been capped by Croatia at Under-17 level and helped Split win the domestic cup with three appearances in the 2022-23 season.

When he signed, the 6ft 4in star stated that it is a “great honor to see that a club like Tottenham has shown such a desire and put in such a lot of effort to bring in a player of my age.”

He’s been compared to former Barcelona star Gerard Pique.

Tottenham play with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven at the back under newly appointed manager Ange Postecoglou.

Meanwhile, after their mega-money purchase in 2021, Newcastle has signed some great players, such Garang Kuol and Yankuba Minteh, but have lost out on Vuskovic.

In other news, Tottenham is willing to disregard wage structure and agree to another “huge” contract.
