West Ham United boss David Moyes has already signed a replacement for Lucas Paqueta, and the club’s fans will get a taste of life without the Brazilian tonight.
Lucas Paqueta joined West Ham in the summer of 2022 for a club record cost of £51 million (The Times).
However, the Hammers star’s deal has an £85 million release clause (Telegraph).
Since the summer, Manchester City has been heavily linked with a deal for the 26-year-old Brazilian.
Listen, Paqueta is an incredibly gifted player. He’s had a fantastic start to the 2023/24 season, and his performance against Liverpool on Sunday would have no doubt raised some eyebrows at the Etihad.
If West Ham eventually sells the former Lyon player, Moyes will need to find a top-tier replacement…Will he, or won’t he? I believe the Scot has already done so…

Moyes brought Mohammed Kudus from Ajax to the London Stadium in the summer for roughly £38 million.
It now appears that the Scot will be unable to field the Ghana international, Paqueta, James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez, Tomas Soucek, and Said Benrahma all at the same time.
I believe Moyes signed Kudus in the summer to give him a full season to settle in before taking over from Paqueta, if and when he is sold.
We must be realistic here. The Brazilian is a world-class player, and a move to a team like Manchester City next summer will be a natural development for him.
And if he does leave, we already have a ready-made substitute in the form of Kudus.
Lucas Paqueta has not joined the West Ham team for tonight’s Carabao Cup match against Lincoln City.
Kudus is likely to start at LNER Stadium tonight, so we should get a taste of life without the South American.
I have a strong sense the Ghanaian has what it takes to fill in for Paqueta, and I’m hopeful he shines against the League One side.
