Former Leeds United assistant and Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea midfielder celebrates Daniel Farke and predicts promotion for his old team.

FORMER LEEDS United assistant manager Gus Poyet believes the club’s hiring of Daniel Farke as head coach in early July was one of the better decisions made by an English team this summer.

Poyet has been impressed by the Norwich City manager’s ability to restore peace, stability, and order to the Elland Road club following a turbulent 2022-23 season and a challenging close-season.

Poyet, now Greece manager, told safebettingsites.com: “I think Daniel Farke’s appointment by Leeds was the most ‘common-sense decision’ from any football owner in the summer.” Poyet, 55, briefly worked at Leeds in the mid-noughties as Dennis Wise’s assistant during the Ken Bates period.

“You are Leeds United Football Club, and you want to return to the Premier League right away, and there is a coach available who has been promoted twice from the Championship; it’s a simple decision.”

“It’s common sense, and all Leeds has to do now is work hard and achieve what Farke did with Norwich.”

“It won’t be easy of course, but Leeds have put themselves in a great position with that appointment of Farke.”

Leeds are one of the best teams in the Championship right now, and they travel to Southampton on Saturday after a convincing home win over Watford.

Leeds recorded their fourth consecutive clean sheet and increased their point total to 11 from the last 15 available.

They have only been defeated once in eight games this season.

Poyet responded to the question of whether Leeds can make an immediate return to the Premier League this season, saying, “Yes, I think so, they have enough in their squad and their manager to achieve that goal this season.”

“I believe there was something missing at the start of the season, which is normal with a new coach and after being relegated from the Premier League.”

“They had a few players who wanted to leave too, which would have been unsettling.”
