According to Dr. Rajpal Brar, Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne might have been out for over three months as a result of Chelsea defender Malo Gusto’s challenge.
According to the injury expert, an ankle inversion sprain might have kept him out for up to eight weeks, while a leg break with nerve or artery damage would have caused him to miss even more playing time.
After VAR requested referee Jarred Gillett to review the screen after he brandished a yellow card, the Blues right-back was shown a red card.
Dr. Brar, a physical therapist and sports scientist, informed Villa News about the incident:
“There are two distinct possibilities there: an inversion ankle sprain, which can range from a week out to 6-8 weeks out if there is a grade 3 rupture and associated fracture, and a grade 3 rupture and associated fracture.”
“The other, if Gusto had caught him higher, is a leg break, but the extent of the injury really depends on that, and it could’ve been over 8 weeks as well.”
“This could be anything from how bad the fracture is to whether or not there is any artery or nerve involvement.”
“However, he appears to have come unscathed from that so it’s good news for the club.”
Chelsea have opted not to appeal the decision to send off the 20-year-old at Stamford Bridge.
This could imply that they agreed with a judgement and had no grounds for an appeal.
Digne appeared to be uneasy following the incident, but brushed it off as the game went.
Given Alex Moreno’s recent injury report, Unai Emery will lean heavily on the Frenchman.
