Brentford have identified a Leicester City player as a possible January signing.

The Bees are interested in Patson Daka, who has yet to appear in the Championship for Leicester this season.

Leicester City were fortunate to keep many of the players who were relegated with them from the Premier League previous season during the summer transfer window.

Despite being part of a Foxes team that ultimately failed in their bid to stay in the top flight, the collective experience of those who did not leave over the summer means that they are valuable assets for new head coach Enzo Maresca as he looks to promote them at the first time of asking.

While many players left the King Power Stadium over the summer, Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Jamie Vardy all remained.

Patson Daka is another player who did not leave City, despite not being offered the opportunities that others have received under Maresca.

According to Sky Sports in Italy, through Milan News, Leicester and AC Milan agreed to send the Zambia international striker to the San Siro on deadline day, but the proposed transfer fell through for whatever reason.

Similarly, Premier League club Bournemouth looked into signing the 24-year-old but were unable to reach an agreement with Leicester, ensuring Daka will stay a City player until at least January.

Daka may be able to leave Leicester at the start of 2024, with a new team reportedly interested in his services.

Who would like to sign Patson Daka?

According to Football Transfers, Brentford are considering a move for Daka, with the future of Ivan Toney at the club unknown.

Toney is banned from football until January 2024, and it is expected that the bigger Premier League clubs would look into a move for him at the mid-season window, and if he is sold, Thomas Frank will have money to spend.

If Daka is sold, Brentford will go after him, but they will have competition from Bournemouth, who are still keen in signing him despite their failures earlier this month.

Patson Daka’s performance for Leicester has been mixed.

Daka scored 11 goals in his debut season for Leicester City, five of them came in the UEFA Europa League and the remaining five in Premier League competition.

The Zambian’s goal contributions plummeted in 2022-23, scoring just four times in all competitions, and he has only featured once under Maresca so far in 2023-24, a substitute appearance in the EFL Cup.

According to Football Transfers, Leicester owe Daka’s old club Red Bull Salzburg £6 million the next time he appears for the team in league play, which may explain why Maresca hasn’t used him at all in the Championship.
