The Leeds United midfielder has piqued the interest of European heavyweights.

According to The Athletic, European heavyweights Borussia Dortmund expressed interest in signing Leeds United attacker Georginio Rutter during the summer transfer window.

Rutter has overcome his difficult start at Leeds and developed as a crucial player for the club in the Championship.

In seven games this season, he has earned the faith of new boss Daniel Farke, scoring two goals and assisting two others.

However, there were concerns about him in the summer given his troubles in the Premier League in the latter half of last season.

And it has been stated that in the previous transfer window, Bundesliga giants Dortmund expressed an interest in providing him with an exit path from Elland Road.

On behalf of Dortmund, a representative contacted Leeds and inquired about the possibilities of signing Rutter.

He was asked if the forward was interested in leaving Leeds after the club was relegated from the Premier League.

Leeds turned down the proposal because Rutter is a player they have always wanted to keep.

When Farke took over as manager, he also instructed Leeds to turn down any interest in the forward from other clubs.

NEWS FLASH: Leeds united has beaten Southampton to sign free agent…..

SOUTHAMPTON SUMMER SIGNING IS ON TRIAL WITH LEEDS UNITED.

Joe Lumley, the goalkeeper, had a trial with Leeds United before joining Championship rivals Southampton.

During pre-season, Leeds United considered signing goalkeeper Joe Lumley.

This is according to a report from The Athletic, who claims Lumley was on trial at Thorp Arch.

Leeds brought in Sam Byram on trial, ostensibly to help a former player stay healthy after playing under Daniel Farke at Norwich City.

Byram eventually signed with Leeds and has been a key player in the early stages of the new Championship season.

However, Byram was not the only trialist at the club, as goalkeeper Lumley was also looking for a new team…

Joe Lumley was scouted by Leeds United.

Lumley is said to have joined Leeds ‘briefly’ when the club was looking for another goalkeeper.

The Whites watched Joel Robles go over the summer and needed an experienced Championship goalkeeper to compete with Illan Meslier.

Lumley, who was released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season, was an option.

The 28-year-old spent last season on loan at Reading, making 41 Championship games, and has also played for Boro and Queens Park Rangers.

Finally, Leeds signed Karl Darlow from Newcastle United, and he is currently functioning as a backup to Meslier after being anticipated to compete for first-team minutes.

Lumley instead joined Southampton.

Lumley departed Leeds quite swiftly to join Championship rivals Southampton.

The fact that Southampton goalkeeping coach Dean Thornton taught Lumley in the QPR youth ranks is an important element here.

Lumley was excited to reunite, but he has yet to play a single minute in a Southampton shirt.

In fact, Lumley has only appeared in two games this season and appears to be third-choice at Southampton, trailing Gavin Bazunu and Alex McCarthy.
