Newcastle United’s star will be out for six months.

Joe Willock has been out of action for Newcastle United since May.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has issued an update on Joe Willock’s injuries.

The former Arsenal midfielder has been out of action since May, when he suffered a hamstring injury in the Magpies’ final home game of the 2022-23 season against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Willock was supposed to return on the pre-season trip to the United States, but he was delayed. United intended to get him back after the September international break, but he suffered another Achilles injury.

The 24-year-old still has “a long way to go” before returning, but Howe aims to get him back in full training by the end of October.

“He’s doing well,” Howe said, according to NewcastleWorld. “He’s in a different stage of his rehabilitation now – he’s on the grass, not with us, but with the physios and sports scientists who are really trying to build up his resilience and load.” He’s doing well and appears to be content.

“I believe the physios have set a reasonable timetable for his return.” I don’t think we’ll rush him back; instead, I think we’ll be cautious.

“He still has a long way to go.” I believe he’ll return to training around the middle to end of October, after which he’ll need some time to regain his proper condition.”

Willock will have been sidelined for six months if he does not return to action until November.

Willock appeared in 35 games last season, scoring six goals and providing six assists as the Magpies qualified for the Champions League.
