Aston Villa transfer boost as Arsenal midfielder ‘to consider future’

Birmingham’s latest Aston Villa newsAccording to reports, the Villans are interested in Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe.

Emile Smith Rowe is thought to be “considering” his future at Arsenal, following reports of interest from Aston Villa.

This season, the Arsenal midfielder has struggled for playing time in Mikel Arteta’s lineup. He has only made four appearances in 2023/24, with his only start coming against Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

According to 90min, the 23-year-old will now ponder his future at the club if his playing time does not increase before the January transfer window. Smith Rowe has previously been connected with moves to both Villa and Newcastle, with the article stating that both clubs, along with Brighton, are “keeping tabs on the situation.”

According to the source, Smith Rowe “aspires” to be a member of Gareth Southgate’s England side for next summer’s European Championship and is “desperate” for first-team appearances.

In June, he told The Times about last season and his future goals, adding, “I just want to be on the pitch.” This was the most difficult season of my career.

“Not playing was difficult, but we were in a title race, and I understand the manager isn’t going to change the team if we’re winning every game.” I simply tried to remain positive and train as hard as I could. Mikel [Arteta] and the other players were excellent with me and kept me feeling connected. But it was a long season, and it was difficult. I’m not going to lie.

“Arsenal are my club, and I won’t give up until [Arteta] says he doesn’t want me.” That, however, is not the case. He wants me to be a member of the team, and I want to battle for my spot and return to the team.

“I think it’s definitely possible [to win the Premier League] with the team we have.” This season, it just got pinched at the end, and you can’t really argue with Man City, but the fact that we made it this far in the season shows the character and belief we have as a young club.

“I think this year was just the start for us and next season we can do even better.”
